1. Data controller
Executive captionz Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”) is the data controller for personal information collected through the AfricaDecides Platform. Our office is at Nkurumah road, Light building, Suite K07, Kampala, Uganda.
2. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly and automatically through your use of the Platform:
- Account data: name, email address, phone number and password.
- Profile data: photo, bio, school or organisation affiliation.
- Transaction data: payment confirmations, vote purchases, ticket purchases and payout requests.
- Election data: voter identifiers, ballot submissions and audit logs. In Election Mode, ballot choices are encrypted and never linked to your identity in a way that organisers can see.
- Technical data: IP address, device type, browser, operating system and cookies.
3. How we use your information
We use your data to:
- create and secure your account;
- process votes, ballots, tickets, payments and payouts;
- verify your identity and prevent fraud;
- communicate service updates, support responses and marketing (where you have consented);
- improve platform security, performance and features.
4. Secret ballots in Election Mode
In Election Mode, we use cryptographic hashing and access controls to ensure that no individual ballot can be linked back to a voter by organisers or administrators. Audit logs record that a ballot was cast, but not how it was cast.
5. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell personal data. We share data only with trusted service providers necessary to operate the Platform (payment processors, hosting providers, SMS and email services) and where required by law or to protect our rights. Organisers see only the data necessary to manage their own projects.
6. Data security
We use encryption, access controls, row-level security and regular audits to protect your data. Payment information is handled by PCI-DSS-compliant partners; we do not store full card details.
7. Cookies and tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, understand usage and prevent fraud. You can control cookies through your browser settings; however, some features may not work without cookies.
8. Data retention
We retain personal data for as long as necessary to provide the Platform, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce agreements. Account data may be deleted on request unless we are required to keep it by law.
9. Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal data. You may also object to certain processing or withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@africadecides.test.
10. International transfers
Some of our service providers may process data outside Uganda. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
11. Children
The Platform is not directed at children under 13. Where school elections involve minors, accounts are managed by the school or with appropriate guardian consent.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or through the Platform.
