Mobile Money voting, explained
Voters pay for boosts with MTN MoMo or Airtel Money straight from the competition page. Every vote on the leaderboard is backed by a confirmed transaction.
What a voter actually does
A supporter opens your competition link, finds their nominee, and taps to vote. They choose how many boosts to buy, enter the phone number they pay from, and approve the prompt that arrives on that phone. When the network confirms the payment, the votes appear on the leaderboard and a receipt is issued.
There is no account to create and no app to install. That matters: every extra step between a supporter and their nominee costs you votes.
Why payment-backed votes are harder to rig
A vote only exists once money has moved. Nobody can inflate a nominee by refreshing a page, clearing cookies or scripting a browser, because the leaderboard is a reflection of confirmed transactions. Payment confirmations are verified against the provider rather than trusted from the browser, so a faked callback does not add votes.
For elections, where nobody should pay, the platform uses a different mode entirely: one secret ballot per verified voter and no money involved.
Fees, revenue and payouts
Organisers keep 70% of paid voting and livestream revenue. There is no setup fee and no monthly charge, so a project that earns nothing costs nothing. Withdrawals are requested from the dashboard, reviewed, and sent to your MTN or Airtel account with a small fixed processing fee per withdrawal that depends on the amount.
Common questions
Which networks can voters pay from?
MTN MoMo and Airtel Money. Supporters abroad can pay by Visa or Mastercard instead.
How much is one vote?
Voting starts at UGX 1,000 for a single boost, and larger boost packs cost less per vote. Organisers see the exact bundles before publishing.
What happens if a payment fails or the prompt times out?
No vote is recorded. Only a confirmed payment adds a vote, so a failed or abandoned prompt leaves the leaderboard untouched and the voter can try again.
When does the organiser get the money?
Collected funds sit against your project until you request a payout from the dashboard. You keep 70% of paid voting and livestream revenue, less a small processing fee per withdrawal.
Do voters get a receipt?
Yes. Each successful vote produces a receipt with the transaction reference, the nominee and the number of votes added.
