What AfricaDecides does
AfricaDecides is a Ugandan voting platform built for the way people here actually vote: on a phone, over mobile data, paying with Mobile Money. You create a competition or election, add the nominees or candidates, share one link, and every vote is counted against a confirmed payment or a verified voter record.
It replaces the usual patchwork of WhatsApp tallies, Google Forms and manual airtime collection. Organisers get a dashboard with live standings, payment records and payout requests; voters get a page that loads fast on a modest phone.
Two ways to run a vote
Competition mode is for pageants, awards and talent contests. Anyone can vote, votes are bought as boosts, and the leaderboard is public so momentum is visible. Nominees each get a shareable profile page.
Election mode is for schools, universities, associations and SACCOs. Each verified voter casts one secret ballot, running totals stay hidden, and results are released only when you choose to publish them.

How to start
Create an account, open the hosting wizard, and pick competition or election. Add your categories, upload nominee photos, set your voting window, and publish. Most organisers are live within an hour. Nothing is charged up front — the platform only earns from what your project earns.
Common questions
How much does it cost to run an online vote in Uganda?
There is no setup fee. Voters buy boosts from UGX 1,000 each, and organisers keep 70% of paid voting and livestream revenue. Payouts go to MTN or Airtel Mobile Money after a small processing fee per withdrawal.
Can voters pay with Mobile Money?
Yes. Voting is paid for with MTN MoMo or Airtel Money on the voter's phone. Card payments are also supported for supporters outside Uganda.
Do voters need to create an account?
No account is needed to cast a paid vote. A voter opens your competition link, picks a nominee, enters their phone number and approves the Mobile Money prompt.
How do you stop one person voting thousands of times unfairly?
Paid votes are tied to a confirmed payment, so every vote is backed by a real transaction. In election mode each verified voter gets exactly one secret ballot and totals stay sealed until you publish them.
